LOS ANGELES -- Rob Reiner's son, Nick Reiner, has been taken into custody after deaths of the director-writer and his wife Michele, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press
A spokesperson confirmed that the 32-year-old individual was in police custody on Monday. Due to the ongoing investigation, the spokesperson was unable to publicly disclose further details and spoke to AP on the condition of anonymity. Online jail records indicate that Reiner was booked by Los Angeles police and remained in jail on Monday. The specific charges against him were not immediately clear. According to online records, a US$4-million bail had been set.

According to official reports, first responders were called to Reiner's residence to conduct a welfare check. Both Reiner and Singer-Reiner were declared deceased at the scene.

Authorities characterized the situation as a domestic tragedy, and officials stressed that preliminary reports were subject to revision as evidence was examined. Family representatives requested privacy while law enforcement proceeded with its investigation.

Michelle Singer-Reiner, a gifted jazz vocalist and Reiner’s loving partner of several years, was cherished by friends for her unwavering support and enthusiasm for Reiner’s later work and activism. Reiner's extraordinary career serves as a shining example of his limitless talent and versatility, initially captivating audiences as Michael "Meathead" Stivic on the groundbreaking sitcom All in the Family, and later transitioning seamlessly behind the camera to direct a diverse array of films, including This Is Spinal Tap, The Sure Thing, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery, and A Few Good Men, demonstrating his mastery of multiple genres and solidifying his reputation as a trailblazing filmmaker.
